An acid neutralizer uses calcite (crushed white marble) as a naturally occurring calcium carbonate media to neutralize acidic or low pH water without chemicals, raising the pH to reduce corrosion of plumbing systems. The calcite has a self-limiting property that corrects pH only enough to reach a non-corrosive equilibrium without over-correcting under normal conditions. As the acidic water dissolves the calcium carbonate, it raises pH and hardness levels, which may require a water softener to be installed after the neutralizing filter.
