Slow drips of water can be very costly ...... Did you know a faucet with a "slow drip" say 10 drips per min can waste 1.44 gallons a day 43.2 gallons in a 30 day mo & 525.6 gallons in a yr!!
How can I prevent clogged drains? Do not rinse fats or cooking oils down the sink. Liquid fats coagulate in cold pipes and create clogs. To help prevent clogs place strainers in all of your drains and make sure to clean them out regularly.
What is the importance of/Why is having a Pressure Reducing Valve important?
When you use water in your home it is delivered from your local water company through pipes by using water pressure. This means if you use ANY water in your your home for any reason there will be pressure that forces water through your faucets shower washing machine dishwasher, etc.
The pressure that forces the water through the pipes is measured in PSI (pound-force per square inch). If your water pressure exceeds 80PSI it can put extra wear and tear on your appliances and in some cases even void their warranties.
A Pressure Reducing Valve regulates the rate at which water flows into your home and reduces the water pressure when it exceeds the recommended 60PSI.
What is Thermal Expansion/Why do I need a Thermal Expansion Tank?
**The International Plumbing Code requires that Thermal Expansion Control be addressed**
**A TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IS NOT CONSIDERED A THERMAL EXPANSION DEVISE**
When water is heated it expands. Since water is not compressible, the extra volume created by expansion must go somewhere. When there is no flow going on in your plumbing system pressure reducing valves, backflow preventers and other one way valves are closed, eliminating a path for expanded water to flow back into the system.
Thermal Expansion can create a number of annoying, costly and potentially dangerous problems.
Such as: Dripping faucets, Pressure surges, the build up of extremely high pressure (even when a Pressure Reducing Valve is installed)
More serious problems include: Dangerous pressure building up causing parts to fail. If a flue way collapses it can lead to e release of toxic gases such as carbon monoxide into your home.
When water continually drips from the T&P relief valve minerals can build up and cause blockage potentially leading to a water heater explosion.
